Perfecting the Epoxy Inlay in a Woodworking Project

For the past few years, I have stumbled upon many resin pouring videos, woodworking pictures, DIY builds, and generally cool projects. Amidst the pandemic, I thought I would pick up woodworking and give my best shot at creating a wooden bedside table with an epoxy inlay. I’ll go ahead and say it now — I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

The epoxy resin inlay is definitely the coolest and most unique aspects of this project, but it was also the hardest to perfect. Here’s how it all went down:

I started the design process by sketching out some ideas. I used this method to pick out exactly what type of pattern I wanted to engrave. I eventually settled on a geometric pattern composed of randomly sized triangles creating a sort of web across the front.

To get a better idea of the proportions and overall look of the table, I mocked up the design and dimensions in Solidworks — there are several other 3D cad software packages out there for hobbyists at a lower price point, my…
